NØLO Recipe: Pentire Coastal Spritz

This recipe comes to us from the fine team at Pentire. And yes, indeed, it's perfect for all the Lazy Barkeeps (like me) out there.

We love the whole coastal botanicals Pentire line because it's fresh in a way that is different from anything else we carry. Somehow, simultaneously subtle and very complex, distilling unique plants native to the UK coastline.

Pentire Coastal Spritz - featured in this recipe - is their non-alcoholic aperitif, a blend of signature botanicals like Blood Orange, Sea Rosemary, and Oakwood.

By the way, Pentire also makes a fantastic ready-to-drink version for when you need a no-hassle picnic basket filler.

The History

Aperitifs are thought of as a pre-dinner drink and are rooted in ancient medicine. They've evolved over time to be a social ritual in Europe, especially in Italy and France.

These drinks started as botanical beverages meant to stimulate appetite. In fact, the word "aperitif" is a French word derived from the Latin verb "aperire"...literally meaning "to open".

Aperitifs are generally dry and have some level of bitterness and are not to be confused with Digestifs, which are after-dinner "help you digest what you just ate" drinks.

Make It

  • 2 oz Pentire Coastal Spritz
  • 5 oz light tonic or soda
  • 1 orange wedge or slice for garnish
  • 1 fresh bay leaf or sprig of rosemary for garnish

Into a wine/spritz glass filled with ice, pour Pentire Coastal Spritz and top with tonic. Garnish with orange and your choice of a fresh bay leaf or a sprig of rosemary.

Santé!
